Africa increased crude steel production

According to the World Steel Association, global crude steel production in April 2023 was 161.4 million tons, a decrease of 2.4% compared to April 2022.

Compared to April 2022, Africa was up by 4.8% to 1.3 million tons in April this year. According to the World Steel Association, global crude steel production reached 161.4 million tons in April 2023, down by 2.4% compared to April 2022.

In March and April this year, on the other hand, there was a 5.3% increase, with the figure rising to 452.5 thousand tons in April. Africa recorded the highest production figure since September 2021, the fourth increase in crude steel production since the first month of this year.

Looking at the chart, it appears that South Africa, Libya and Tunisia led the increase in African crude steel production.

Egypt, the continent's leading producer, recorded a minimal decrease in crude steel production, down by -0.7% -o-y.

The largest contributor to the increase in crude steel production was South Africa, up by 12.1% y-o-y to 48.7 thousand tons.

The European Union (27) recorded production of 11.1 million tons, down by 11.7%.

Europe (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom) reached 3.5 million tons, down by 17.3%.

The Middle East increased by 4.2% to 4.2 million tons.

North America produced 9.2 million tons, down by 4.6%.

Russia and other CIS + Ukraine increased by 5.9% to 7.5 million tons.

South America decreased by 2.2% to 3.6 million tons.
