The Presidential Decree on the Implementation of Safeguard Measures on Wire Rod Imports was published in the Official Gazette.
In the statement made by the Ministry of Trade regarding the decision, it was stated that if the increase in imports of a product causes serious damage or threat of serious damage to domestic producers, safeguard measures can be taken within the scope of the Legislation on Safeguard Measures in Imports.
In the statement, it was stated that the safeguard measures were taken upon the applications of domestic producers in accordance with the legislation or ex officio with the investigations carried out within the framework of international rules, and in this framework, it was reported that a safeguard investigation was initiated in the examination made upon the application requesting safeguard measures in wire rod imports by domestic producers.
"Exemption granted for some wire rod types"
In the statement, it was noted that it was determined that the imports of wire rod increased and that domestic producers were damaged by these imports:
"In this framework, it was decided to apply a safeguard measure in the form of additional financial obligation for 3 years in the form of an additional financial obligation of 175 dollars per ton in the first year, 170 dollars in the second year and 165 dollars in the third year in the import of wire rod types specified in the published decision. The decision also provided exemption from the measure for some wire rod types that have no domestic production or need imports due to their technical specifications."
In the statement, it was stated that the "Presidential Decree on the Application of Safeguard Measures in Wire Rod Imports" and the "Communiqué on Safeguard Measures in Imports" prepared within this framework were published in the Official Gazette and entered into force, "Our Ministry of Trade will continue to stand by domestic production against unfair practices and unfair competition and to effectively regulate import policies in line with employment targets."
