Acciaierie d'Italia continues to invest in renewing its fleet and increasing operational efficiency

Italian steel producer Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI) has embarked on a major fleet renewal to strengthen its logistics activities and improve operational efficiency. This step involves the restoration of five vessels and eight floating installations in the fleet, whose effectiveness has been reduced due to lack of maintenance and expired certificates.

Fleet Renewal and Strategic Investments

Angelo Colucci, Director of Logistics, Supply Chains and Maritime Services of Acciaierie d'Italia, stated that this operation is considered as a strategic recovery plan. The company is implementing the fleet renewal process in order to increase its logistics autonomy and strengthen its control over the supply chain. It is stated that this will increase the company's competitiveness and significantly improve operational efficiency.

In this context, a particularly noteworthy development is the reactivation of the large bulk carrier Gemma, which has been in service in Singapore for a long time. This vessel is designed to carry ore from Brazil to Taranto and is said to have a carrying capacity of 315,000 tonnes. Gemma is expected to arrive in Taranto in November 2024.

In addition, the flagship Ursa Minor in ADI's fleet is also planned to be launched soon. With a 30,000 tonne carrying capacity, Ursa Minor will continue its operations after maintenance, carrying semi-finished products from the plant in Taranto to the port of Genoa.

Future Plans and Innovations

Acciaierie d'Italia also announced that blast furnace №1 at the metallurgical plant in Taranto will be restarted in October. This step aims to increase the plant's production capacity and efficiency.

On the other hand, it is recalled that in August this year the former ADI Ilva was put up for sale and applications for declarations of interest must be submitted by 20 September 2024. This sale is seen as part of the company's strategic reorganisation process.

Acciaierie d'Italia's fleet renewal and operational improvement efforts are considered as an important step to increase the company's global competitiveness and optimise its logistics processes. These investments are realised with the aim of providing more control in both internal operational efficiency and external logistics processes.
