71 companies applied for the Recycling Specialized OIZ planned to be established in Kayseri

So far 71 companies have applied for the Recycling Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) planned to be established in Kayseri.

Kayseri Chamber of Industry (KAYSO) President Mehmet Büyüksimitci said that they are planning to establish a specialized OIZ for the recycling of wastes, especially textile, paper, plastic, metal, glass and similar sectors, taking into account the importance of the recycling sector within the framework of zero waste policy and the added value it will create for the Turkish economy.

Stating that the work on the place where the OIZ will be established is continuing, Büyüksimitci said, "We discussed this with the Metropolitan Municipality. It will be very modern, will serve the country and will create great added value. It will be an OIZ where you can recycle something you throw in the garbage, think of metal, paper, we can return it to the economy again."

Büyüksimitci noted that they aim to complete all planning and applications by the end of the year.

"I think we can handle this work on an area of 3.5 million square meters"

Emphasizing that Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank also supported the project, Büyüksimitci continued his words as follows:

"We will hopefully establish the first recycling OIZ in Turkey in Kayseri. By the end of 2024, I think it will be fully operational because this will not be a very large OIZ, but there will definitely be expandable areas. If we reach about 100 companies, I think we can handle this business on an area of 3.5 million square meters. I hope it will be fully operational by the end of 2024. We did not know that there were so many recyclers in Kayseri. Our friends in the professional committee did a very serious work. So far 71 companies have applied, I believe we will reach 100."

"It is now necessary to carry out activities related to recycling like developed countries"

Stating that the exemplary project will add beauty to the whole country, Büyüksimitci said that many cities will focus on this work.

"There is a promise of nearly 3 thousand employment"

Stating that they will also make an important contribution to employment, Büyüksimitci said:

"Currently, the companies that have applied to us have nearly 3 thousand employment promises. This is really good employment, and if we increase this a little more, I think at least 5 thousand jobs will be provided in this OIZ. In general, the profession is always referred to as scrapping rather than recycling, and it is always tried to be done under the stairs or within certain sites. Therefore, the sector cannot develop itself much even if it wants to. You can do this in a regular area with its infrastructure and environmental sensitivity, so imagine that they need a treatment plant, you can do the treatment. You can collect all their waste water and clean their waste. It is also possible to collect their garbage accordingly and manage them from a single source. What we will do is to provide opportunities. To enable these companies to grow even more, because there are very good examples of this in Europe, America and developed countries, and Turkey has nowhere else to go. It is now necessary to engage in recycling activities like developed countries. The fact that Kayseri is hopefully leading the way in this will make us happy."

Emphasizing that they need to make these preparations in order to compete with the developed world, Büyüksimitci added that they will take the waste out of the scrap logic and turn it into industrial raw materials.
