At the end of last month, the Turkish iron and steel sector reverberated with the news that Habaş had acquired İlhanlar Haddecilik. However, no official announcement was made from either side.
According to the latest information coming from the market, Habaş started to work on production activities in Payas.
Habaş, which brought 55 thousand tons of billet imported from Malaysia to Iskenderun Port, unloaded 30 thousand tons of this billet at the port and started to transport it to its facilities in Payas. The company plans to produce thin rebar here. The remaining 25 thousand tons of billet will be shipped to Izmir.
Habaş will process and stock both the billets it unloaded in Iskenderun and the rebar it will bring from Izmir in Payas. In the first stage, the company will produce 08-10 mm thin iron in Payas, while the products of other diameters will be shipped and stocked by ship.
Habaş, which is expected to start selling finished products from Payas next week, is expected to add a significant dynamism to the iron and steel market in the region, while the competitive environment that will be created makes the traders happy.
The sellers, who had difficulty in making sales due to the high producer prices in Iskenderun region, were uncomfortable with the sale of products from the Aegean region up to the Iskenderun border due to the more favorable prices in Izmir.
