The World Steel Association (Worldsteel) has announced the crude steel production data for 2021.
Accordingly, global crude steel production increased by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year and reached 1 billion 90.5 million tons. While Asian production increased by only 0.6 percent to 1 billion 382 million tons last year, the production in China decreased by 3 percent compared to the previous year to 1 billion 32.8 million tons.
In the said period, the production of India, one of the world's major steel producers, increased by 17.8 percent to 118.1 million tons as the economy recovered from the Kovid-19 outbreak. Japan's production expanded 14.9 percent to 96.3 million tons, and South Korea's increased 5.2 percent to 70.6 million tons.
The EU's crude steel production increased by 15.4 percent compared to the previous year and was recorded as 152.6 million tons.
Among the EU countries, Germany's production increased by 12.3 percent to 40.1 million tons, Italy's production increased by 19.7 percent to 24.4 million tons. France's production, on the other hand, increased by 20.3 percent and reached 13.9 million tons.
In the USA, 2021 crude steel production increased by 18.3 percent to 86 million tons.
In this period, Russia's crude steel production increased by 6.1 percent compared to 2020 and reached 76 million tons, while Ukraine expanded by 3.6 percent to 21.4 million tons.
It is estimated that the production in Iran decreased by 1.8 percent to 28.5 million tons.
Crude steel production in Turkey, on the other hand, increased by 12.7% in 2021, reaching the level of 40.4 million tons. Thus, while the country reached the highest production amount of all time, Turkey maintained its 7th place in global crude steel production.
Meanwhile, global crude steel production fell by 3% to 158.7 million tons in December 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, with production in China falling by 6.8 percent.
