Germany's Stahl-Holding-Saar (SHS), owner of Saarstahl and Dillinger, has announced a decarbonisation project, the first phase of which will start in 2027, with an estimated investment of EUR 3 billion.
The company plans to install new electric arc furnaces at the Saarstahl plant and electric arc furnaces and direct reduced iron modules at the Dillinger plant over the next five years. In a second phase (until 2045), a third electric arc furnace would be installed.
The investment plan will enable the company to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 65 per cent by 2030 and 80 per cent by 2045.
