According to data compiled by SteelRadar from Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (German Steel Federation), Germany's crude steel production increased by 5.2% to 37.2 million tons in 2024 compared to 2023. However, the amount of crude steel produced remained below the 40 million ton limit for the third consecutive year, showing that production is stagnant.
In December 2024, crude steel production increased by 4.1% y-o-y to 2.7 million tons, placing it 7th in the world steel rankings for 2024.
In Germany, BOF steel production increased by 5.9% to 2.2 million tons in the month compared to the same month last year, while in 2024 this figure increased by 3.3% to 26.4 million tons. Production at electric arc furnaces (EAF) decreased by 3.1% to 516 thousand tons in December, but increased by 10.2% to 10.8 million tons for the full year.
Pig iron production increased by 5.4% to 2 million tons in the same month and by 2.9% to 24.3 million tons in the 12 months of the year. Production of hot-rolled steel products decreased by 7.5% to 2 million tons in the same month, but increased by 3% to 31.6 million tons in 2024.
