German manufacturers complain of poor transport structure and slowdown

Germany's steel and metalworking industries look to weakening performance in 2022 and hope that in 2023 national politics will become more friendly towards manufacturing industries.

German manufacturers complain of poor transport structure and slowdown

Manufacturers' output fell 0.3% year-on-year in 2022. Although the fourth quarter was slightly better than the fourth quarter of 2021, the 0.9% increase seems insufficient. Production decreased by 3.4% in the 4th quarter of 2022 compared to the 3rd quarter.

On the other hand, there are complaints about the condition of the infrastructure for transportation. It is said that things are not going smoothly on Germany's routes, with blocked bridges, miserable roads, and poor connections. They add that they urgently need refurbishment and rapid road widening so that companies can be reached smoothly.

It is underlined that an imperfect transport network also jeopardizes climate and sustainability goals. It is said that the desired circular economy comes to a halt when companies are no longer accessible to waste management companies.
