German industry groups highlight challenges facing the recycling ındustry

The call for a holistic approach in the supply chain

The associations stated that it is insufficient for commodity policies to focus only on producers and steel mills, and called for a holistic approach that covers the entire supply chain. The statement highlighted the role of the recycling sector in the supply of high quality secondary raw materials, while under-recognizing the importance of certified waste management companies in the circular economy.

Importance of free trade

BDSV and VDM argue that free trade in secondary raw materials such as steel and metals is critical for security of supply and competitiveness. Opposing trade restrictions, the associations have demanded that recycled raw materials be integrated into international trade agreements and that the EU adopt practical regulations.

Energy costs and competitiveness

High electricity costs in Germany had a negative impact on demand for steel and metal products. It was stated that this situation negatively affects the demand for steel and metal products. It was emphasized that energy prices should be brought down to the European average, renewable energy investments should be accelerated and industry should be supported in the energy transition process.

Reducing bureaucracy and ımproving transportation

In the statement, they urged the acceleration of permit processes, the reduction of bureaucracy and the development of logistics infrastructure. The associations emphasized that the role of railway transportation in scrap transportation should be increased.
