According to the news of Caixin, the Chinese economy and financial news service, the French shipping company CMA CGM has reached an agreement with the State Shipbuilding Corporation of China (CSSC) for the construction of 16 large container ships.

The deal, worth a total of $3.2 billion, is the largest volume ship order the Chinese company has ever received in one go.

Within the scope of the agreement, 12 ships with a capacity of 23 thousand TEU, 4 and 15 thousand TEU will be delivered to the French company.

The ships will be built at CSSC's shipyards in Shanghai and Dalian, China.

Headquartered in Marseille, CMA CGM has a transport capacity of 3.41 million TEU with its fleet of 606 container ships. With the increase in capacity during the Kovid-19 outbreak, the company surpassed the Chinese Cosco and became the third largest shipping company in the world.

The company, which ordered 12 ships with a capacity of 13 thousand TEU to a shipyard in South Korea in February, added 101 new ships with a total capacity of 920 thousand TEU to its fleet and aims to reach the current capacity of the Danish company Maersk, which ranks second after the industry leader Swiss-Italian partnership Mediterranean. aims.
