Fortescue introduces electric graders powered by Zero battery system

Fortescue, an Australian iron ore mining company, has announced the integration of its Fortescue Zero battery system to power electric mine site graders, in partnership with MacLean Engineering. MacLean, a Canadian company specializing in the design and production of underground mining equipment, is working with Fortescue to develop electric-powered machinery. The electric graders, crucial for road maintenance and ensuring smooth operations at mining sites, will now operate without diesel engines, marking a move towards more sustainable mining practices.

The Fortescue Zero battery system is designed to provide high energy capacity and reliability, enabling the electric graders to meet the demanding conditions of mining environments. This project is a part of Fortescue's broader plan to transition its entire mining fleet to electric power by 2030. The graders will undergo testing at several mine locations before full deployment. MacLean Engineering is playing a key role in adapting its expertise in electric vehicles to integrate advanced battery technology into Fortescue's heavy-duty equipment.

The collaboration between Fortescue and MacLean Engineering is expected to reduce the environmental impact of mining operations while maintaining operational efficiency. By introducing electric graders powered by the Zero battery system, Fortescue aims to significantly lower emissions and continue its push toward a fully electric mining fleet.
