Foreign trade is the key to increasing economic prosperity

Dr. Hakan Çınar, President of the Association of Foreign Trade Leaders (DIŞYÖNDER), said that the only way to increase the level of welfare in economies is through foreign trade. Emphasizing that the whole process should work correctly for the development of foreign trade, Çınar said, "We should talk not only about exports but also about imports; we should be able to say 'the king is naked' when necessary."

Speaking at the opening of the '1st Foreign Trade Summit' organized jointly by DIŞYÖNDER and Istanbul Kültür University, Dr. Hakan Çınar pointed out that Türkiye reached the highest values in exports, imports, foreign trade and foreign trade deficit in 2022.

Emphasizing that it is not possible to get anywhere by focusing only on exports and being afraid to talk about imports

Prof. Dr. Çınar continued as follows:

"Foreign trade is constantly growing and developing in our country as well as on a global scale. On the other hand, we all know that our exports are largely based on imports. In 2022, our exports increased by 12.9 percent to 254.2 billion dollars and our imports increased by 34.3 percent to 364.4 billion dollars. We should not hesitate to talk and discuss this reality. In order to develop correct and realistic policies, we must consider the whole of foreign trade. If we want to achieve greater success in the second century of the Republic, we must take this perspective to the center. DIŞYÖNDER was founded with this awareness. We strive to provide all kinds of support to our ministries with the responsibility of being the only non-governmental organization represented by every chair of the table related to foreign trade."
