First domestic and national train wheelsets produced in KARDEMİR sent to Sivas

The first domestic and national wheel sets produced in Karabük Iron and Steel Factories (KARDEMİR) were sent to Turkey Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ) in Sivas for use in national freight wagons.

Speaking at the ceremony organized in front of the main gate of the plant, KARDEMİR General Manager Necdet Utkanlar said that KARDEMİR has added a brand new product to its product portfolio.

Utkanlar said that unfortunately train wheels could not be produced in Türkiye until today and that this was a long overdue process and added: "We are starting to accelerate this long overdue process. We are sending these train wheels, which we produced for the first time and which were created entirely with domestic labor, to Sivas to meet our wagons. Our next goal is to produce our wheel sets and more advanced products with increasing speed."

Utkanlar stated that KARDEMİR started its needs and its founding philosophy with consuming domestic raw materials and that it has been working with this philosophy for 87 years and said, "We carry our raw materials and ores produced in Anatolia, our coal brought by Zonguldak, here by rail. Today, KARDEMİR is the most important and largest customer of the State Railways. Look, for 87 years, the raw material needs of this region have been met by railways. It will be provided gradually from now on, but we are getting more and more stuck. We are looking at what we have and what we don't have."

Pointing out that the number of freight wagons in Turkey is 20 thousand, Utkanlar continued as follows:

"The number of wagons in Germany is 280 thousand. When we look at Europe, it is around 3 million 200 thousand. Likewise, America is in the same situation. Where are these 100 thousand numbers, where are 20 thousand? This is an indication of how great Turkey's need for rail transportation is, how important it is for us to be able to bring our materials here without delay, and how much we need them. Moreover, why shouldn't we become stronger by sending our own products to the interior of Anatolia by rail? Beyond that, we know that our railway networks are very, very barren. We have attacks that have just begun. Attacks of laying railway networks... With the increase in these, the need for these wheel sets will gradually increase. Until today, Türkiye had to rely on imports in order to buy these railway wheels and to build wagons."

"When it comes to wheels and wheelsets, KARDEMİR is the address"

Utkanlar emphasized that this is the first time that these products have been shipped from KARDEMİR and Karabük, and said, "Look, if the rail is in question, the address is KARDEMİR. When it comes to wheels and wheel sets, the address is KARDEMİR. Today, KARDEMİR has a great responsibility in strengthening the railroad networks in Türkiye and Anatolia, building new equipment, transporting goods from one place to another and even building passenger wagons for traveling."

Utkanlar expressed that he was very happy and thanked his colleagues for their efforts.

Utkanlar said, "These things happen with great efforts." Utkanlar said, "There was another beautiful work here. KARDEMİR-KARDÖKMAK created a synergy together. We started to move on with this synergy. Now our new press has arrived. We have recently commissioned our press, and we have now entered into a movement by forging and processing our own axles, directly from ore to train wheelsets. We will gradually increase our speed and intensity. Good luck to our country and to all of us. Health to all my colleagues. I wish you all the best so that we can meet in better days and include newer products in our product range."

After the speech, 8 railway wheel sets with TSI certification were loaded onto the truck and set off for Sivas.
