Karabük Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTSO) President Fatih Çapraz said the launch of the Filyos Port will significantly cut export costs for the iron and steel sector. Çapraz explained that currently, containerized exports via Gebze-Dilovası cost $30-32 per ton, but this could fall to as low as $7 per ton using the Filyos Port. This $23-25 per ton saving will provide a significant boost to international competitiveness, he emphasized.
President Fatih Çapraz of the Karabük Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTSO) recently addressed board members, including Chairman Adnan Çebi, providing an update on completed projects and the current state of the iron and steel sector. He described a period of strong performance during the pandemic, followed by economic difficulties in 2023 and 2024. However, Çapraz expressed optimism for a recovery beginning in the latter half of 2025, recognizing the sector's cyclical trends while emphasizing its long-term potential for growth in production and trade.
Çapraz highlighted Karabük's globally significant position in iron and steel production, noting the city's unique capacity to produce all commercial profiles, from the thinnest to the thickest gauges a diversity unmatched anywhere else. He identified distance from the port as the city's biggest challenge, explaining that rail expansion will reduce export costs and enhance sector competitiveness.
Emphasizing Filyos Port's critical importance to Karabük and the regional economy, Çapraz stated that its efficient utilization will make exports more competitive and strengthen Tükiye's global market position.
