EVRAZ's press service announced that construction of a new liquid pig iron casting facility has commenced at the West Siberian Iron and Steel Works. Two new, more productive casting machines with a unique environmental solution for pig iron production will be installed in the blast furnace shop of the plant. The cost of the project exceeds $33.9 million.
The project will allow to increase the output of marketable pig iron and ensure stable operation of blast furnaces during scheduled repairs of equipment in the steelmaking shop of the plant. It is planned to increase pig iron production up to 800-850 thousand tonnes per year. The total construction area is more than 13 thousand square metres.
The project complies with environmental standards: a rotary kiln and aspiration system will be installed to reduce emissions. The complex will have a closed recycling cycle excluding waste water discharge. Gas heating of liners will be installed to prevent splashing of pig iron during the technological process.
