Europe has taken an important step to be at the forefront of the fight against climate change and achieve ambitious climate goals. The 3rd European Green Steel Summit, held in Düsseldorf, Germany on March 25-26, 2025, was a critical meeting point for the sustainable future of the steel industry. The Summit aims to lead the green transformation of not only Europe but also the global steel industry. Steel companies and industry representatives from around the world attended the Summit. The event, where the future of sustainability and carbon emissions were discussed, featured speakers of great value.
The current global steel industry accounts for 7-9% of total carbon emissions worldwide. This leaves the industry with a huge responsibility and requires joint efforts from the entire industry to achieve the '30-40-50' climate targets set by the EU.
The Summit discusses various strategies to determine the future direction of the green steel industry, support technological innovation, promote international cooperation and create action plans to reduce carbon emissions. Participants will exchange ideas on the EU Green Deal, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and innovative technologies to accelerate sustainable production.
Key Topics:
- Managing the Complex Transition to a Green Steel Future
- The EU Green Deal and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
- Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen
- Accelerating the Achievement of Carbon Neutrality in the Steel Sector
- CCUS Technologies and Smart Manufacturing
- Scrap Recycling and Recovery of Alloying Elements
Industry representatives, steel producers, renewable energy companies and financial investors attending the summit aim to take important steps in technological innovation and industry cooperation with a common goal.
The summit, which takes place face-to-face and online, will end on March 26.
