The European Commission is expected to officially launch an investigation into the import of hot rolled coil from Egypt, Japan, India and Vietnam in response to the request of the European Steel Union Eurofer.
An EU anti-dumping investigation against these four steel exporters could affect more than half of Europe's hot rolled coil imports.
In January-May 2024, these exporting countries accounted for about 51% of Europe's HRC imports, with a total volume of approximately 4.3 million tons.
According to Iran Steel, anti-dumping investigations of the European Union usually include the imposition of temporary duties for eight months and definitive measures for 14 months after that, provided that dumping has been proven to be difficult for some countries, especially for Vietnam and Egypt, because Vietnam's domestic prices are regularly lower than export deals. However, even small tariffs can affect the flow of trade.
