Euro Mine Expo: 2024 trade fair aims to be Europe's meeting point

At the Euro Mine Expo trade fair you can meet about two hundred exhibitors, from industry defining corporations to potential subcontractors and suppliers.

Euro Mine Expo: 2024 trade fair aims to be Europe's meeting point

Euro Mine Expo will be arranged every second year and has the objective of becoming the most attractive and important meeting point in Europe for the mining industry.

The Gold City

Euro Mine Expo is held in Skellefteå, a city in the northern part of Sweden with a long mining and smelting tradition combined with world-class institutions and a constantly growing industrial sector. Skellefteå is known as ”The Gold City”, and the world-renowned Skelleftefältet (the Skellefteå tract) is one of the richest mineral areas in the world and has a rich seam of gold.

Excellent infrastructure

The area is also home to the Swedish Geological Survey’s Mineral Office, the non-profit organization Georange, educational institutions and a large number of major companies within the mining industry. Excellent infrastructure gives access to the whole Nordic and Russian mining market and the airline connections are also very good. (e.g Stockholm Arlanda International Airport is only one hour away). Skellefteå Municipality has a population of 73,000 and, in addition to the mining and forestry industries, the city is known for a much-awarded creative industry, its vibrant music scene and its passion for sports.

Ore deposits and innovative ideas

Sweden is recognized as the largest iron-ore producer in the EU and is one of the leading European producers of gold, silver, zinc, copper, and lead. Many of Sweden’s most important ore deposits are located in the very region in which Euro Mine Expo is being held, a region where tradition and history are united with technical development and innovative ideas, all of which you will be able to see for yourself by taking part in the field trips.

Mining in Sweden and northern Europe

Sweden is the largest producer and exporter of iron ore in Europe and is among the leading nations in the production of base and noble metals. But it is not only the country’s ore deposits and mineral resources that attract the attention of the industry’s leading players.

Sweden is also on the international cutting edge of research, energy efficiency, environmental awareness and industrial expertise in production technology. Progress is facilitated by an extensive and modern infrastructure and a favourable business climate, which is illustrated by many of the industry’s most prestigious companies being based here.

The area comprising northern Sweden, Finnish Lapland, northern Norway, and north-western Russia is extremely rich in minerals and is still underexploited. The potential that still exists for new mineralisations and mines has led to increased investments in exploration, particularly in northern Sweden and Finland. International capital has found its way to this area and has made the mining industry a vital driving force in national, regional, and local development.
