EU prepares trade sanctions against Russia

The European Union (EU) Commission aims to mobilize the 11th sanctions package against Russia. There are statements by the Commission that the new sanctions package is aimed at exports to Russia.

EU prepares trade sanctions against Russia

European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer made statements about preparations for a new package of sanctions against Russia at the daily press conference held in Brussels.

Mamer confirmed that "I can confirm that the 11th sanction package proposal of the EU Commission has been sent to member states," and noted that member states would evaluate the content of the package at this stage.

Mamer emphasized that they would focus on the implementation, effectiveness, and prevention of violation of sanctions in this new package, indicating that he could not share details about the new sanction package yet.

Stating that "the package will look at exports to Russia and how to handle them," Mamer expressed that they wanted to prevent Russia from importing restricted goods from other countries.

Mamer said that the new sanction package was expected to be discussed in the Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) of the EU Council by member states on Wednesday.

According to the European press, the new sanction package proposal of the EU also includes seven Chinese companies accused of supplying equipment that can be used for military purposes to Russia.

So far, the EU has implemented ten sanction packages against Russia. Within this framework, restrictions were applied to a wide range of areas, including trade, finance, energy, industry, technology, transportation, dual-use and luxury goods, and gold, including oil and coal. The assets of over 1,000 individuals and nearly 200 institutions were frozen.
