Construction production remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.2% in the EU in August 2024, according to data from Eurostat. In September 2024, y/y, construction production decreased by 1.6% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU.
Construction production in the euro area decreased by 0.8% in September m/m in the construction of buildings, increased by 1.4% in civil engineering, and decreased by 0.4% in specialized construction activities. In the EU, production in building construction decreased by 0.9%, in civil engineering increased by 0.6%, and in specialized construction activities decreased by 0.2%.
The countries with the largest monthly decreases in construction production included Czechia with a decrease of 5.5%, Slovakia with a decrease of 4%, and the Netherlands with a decrease of 3.2%. The countries with the highest monthly increases included Romania with an increase of 2.8%, Italy with an increase of 2.2%, Spain, and Slovenia with an increase of 1.7%.
Construction production in the euro area decreased by 0.8% in September compared to the previous year for the construction of buildings, decreased by 0.5% for civil engineering, and decreased by 2.2% in specialized construction activities. In the EU, production in building construction decreased by 2.7%, in civil engineering by 2.2%, and in specialized construction activities by 1.9%.
The countries with the largest annual decreases in construction production included Slovakia with a decrease of 19.1%, Slovenia with a decrease of 17.6%, and Poland with a decrease of 9%. The countries with the largest annual increases included Bulgaria with 5.2%, Italy with 3.9%, and Portugal with 3.3%.
