In 2022, 600 improvement works were made in the Mazıdağı facilities of Eti Bakır, Turkey's only integrated fertilizer producer.
Thus, 1.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity, 4.3 million standard cubic meters of natural gas and 662 thousand cubic meters of water were saved last year, and 15 thousand tons of greenhouse gas reduction was achieved.
In 2022, 600 improvement works were carried out in Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facilities, which is the largest private sector investment made in the region by Eti Bakır, the group company of Cengiz Holding. With these efforts, 1,491,274 kilowatt hours of electricity savings corresponding to the annual consumption of 497 families, 4,350,067 standard cubic meters of natural gas savings corresponding to the annual consumption of 2,900 families, 661,993 cubic meters of water savings corresponding to the annual consumption of 2,043 families and 242,010 liters of diesel fuel, where the distance between the two farthest points of Turkey can be traveled 2,636 times, was achieved. As a result of all savings and other improvement works, 15,102 tons of greenhouse gas emissions were prevented in Eti Bakır's Mazıdağı Plant last year.
'WE FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY'
Emre Kayışoğlu, General Manager of Eti Bakır Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facilities, said that in addition to recovering cobalt, zinc and iron cake from pyrite concentrate, which is the residue of copper production at the facility located in Mardin, the facility has an annual DAP fertilizer production capacity of 500,000 tons. Stating that they are conducting Kai-Zen studies for the continuous improvement of the production in the facility, Kayışoğlu said, "We have determined the approaches of continuous improvement and innovation-oriented work, valuing ideas and continuously developing employees as our principles. With the participation of all members of our family, which has reached 1,500 people, we adopt human and environment-centered sustainable production. With the 600 improvement works we completed this year, we have prevented 15,102 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, we have avoided the greenhouse gas that can be absorbed by 45,249 broad-leaved trees with a trunk diameter of 20 centimeters. PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED ARE REWARDED
Eti Bakır Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facilities started its 'Lean Production' management system, which is based on the continuous improvement of the organizations in the operational processes of the enterprises in order to better respond to the needs, 3 years ago with the trainings it gave to the employees. Then, by adopting Kai-Zen, one of the 'Lean Manufacturing' tools, in other words 'continuous improvement' as a principle, he focused on all his operational processes. In the facility, which sets targets for project development for its employees, all work is evaluated by the Kai-Zen Committee. The best Kai-Zen studies are awarded quarterly and annually. In this context, the winners of the two improvement projects, which are the best Kai-Zens of 2022, will make presentations of their improvement projects at the sister facility ICoNiChem in Widnes, England and see the good practices there in place. Eti Bakır's total improvement works; With the saving of energy, materials, machinery, equipment and labor, 5S studies focus on reducing environmental negative impacts, increasing occupational safety measures and employee satisfaction.
