İZSİAD President Hüseyin Cengiz made the opening speech of the meeting. In his speech, Cengiz emphasized that the historical friendship of the two countries will be re-established in a new era and mentioned the closeness of İzmir and Syria despite their differences. In his speech, he stated that trade is not only an exchange but also an art form that develops and strengthens friendships.
Stating that Türkiye's doors have never been closed to Syria even in difficult situations such as war, and that Türkiye will be with Syria again as it rebuilds, Cengiz said: “It is time for our neighbor and brother to be reborn from the ashes.” Stating that İzmir is not only a port city but also Türkiye’s industrial, agricultural, logistics, tourism and trade center for reconstruction, Cengiz said that İzmir is important and can take responsibility for the revival of the economy and the welfare of the people.
Jak Eskinazi, President of the Aegean Exporters' Associations, emphasized Türkiye and Syria's long-standing ties, noting that before the war, Aleppo and Damascus were frequently visited by Turks. He reminded the importance of Türkiye's support during the war and that Türkiye has already contributed to the reconstruction of Syria with the opening of the consulates general in Aleppo and Damascus and the start of Turkish Airlines flights to Syria. He reminded the importance of sincerity in Syria's reconstruction process and pointed out the opportunities lost by the Turkish business world due to the war.
Finally, EIB President Eskinazi stated that issues such as the facilitation of customs procedures and the elimination of bureaucratic delays will also be on their agenda and emphasized that Türkiye and Syria can maximize the economic potential of both countries by evaluating the change correctly.
