The Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry emphasized its adherence to international trade agreements and clarified that there is no ongoing study to amend or eliminate the applicable fees.

Egypt denies cancelling rebar import duties amid media reports

In a recent announcement, the Egyptian Ministry of Commerce has categorically denied any ongoing consideration or study regarding the cancellation of anti dumping duties on rebar imports from Türkiye, Ukraine, and China.

Contrary to speculations circulating in certain quarters, the Ministry clarified that there is no active review of the imposition of anti dumping duties on rebar.

The dumping duties, initially imposed in 2017 for a four-year period and subsequently extended in June 2023, involve a 25% tariff on rebar and steel imports and a 15% duty on billet (iron ore).

Dumping duties are tariffs imposed on imported goods that are priced below the fair market value. In the case of rebar, these duties are designed to protect domestic producers from unfair competition and maintain a level playing field in the market.

The Ministry's statement comes in response to rumors suggesting a potential reevaluation of dumping duties on rebar imports, which had stirred discussions within the industry. The confirmation of the status quo provides clarity for stakeholders involved in the import and trade of rebar in Egypt.
