According to on-site sources, the capacity of the furnace is around 800,000 tons/year, while the mill's rolling capacity is around 2 million tons per year. There is currently enough raw material to run the furnace for several days, but more is expected to arrive.
Because the company has no plans to restart the other furnace on site, an external slab could be used to supplement the hot strip rolling mill. Liberty Steel will send 10,000 tons of slab from its Galati mill to the mill.
Galati, with both furnaces idle, does not currently produce slabs. Market sources predict that Galati may restart a furnace at the end of this month or early March.
