Dragon Steel will use advanced PCI technology for sustainable steel production

The Taiwanese steel manufacturer Dragon Steel Co, a subsidiary of China Steel Corporation, has commissioned the German plant engineering company SMS Group to develop Blast Furnace No. 1 (BF1) at its Taichung plant by integrating powder coal injection (PCI) technology.

The upgrade, which is due to be completed by the end of 2025, aims to significantly reduce the gas supply to the blast furnace, thereby reducing coke consumption and annual carbon emissions by 2,865 tons.

This initiative reflects Dragon Steel's commitment to environmental sustainability and technological advances in steel production.
