As SteelRadar previously reported, the company could enter bankruptcy proceedings due to financial problems. On July 25, Poland's Częstochowa District Court declared the Liberty steel plant bankrupt and appointed a trustee, with around 2,600 workers at risk of redundancy. The Czech Republic's Labor Office has launched a program to provide career guidance and financial support to these workers.
Negative developments were also reported at Liberty Steel's other plants. In Hungary, the July bonus was not paid and more than 1,000 workers saw their salaries cut by 30%.
IndustriAll Europe and IndustriALL Global Union have targeted these developments and called for urgent public action to protect Europe's strategic steel assets. Policymakers must commit to a real Steel Action Plan, they emphasized.
