Large sections of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, were submerged after being hit by the Singapore-flagged container ship Dali. While a fire broke out on the ship after the crash, many rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.
In the statement made by the Maryland Department of Transportation, it was stated that all roads leading to the Francis Scott Key Bridge were closed to traffic in both directions. It was stated that at least 7 people were estimated to have fallen into the water and rescue efforts were continuing.
Fire Boat operator Andrew Doyle described what happened after the ship hit the bridge as follows: "A container ship crashed into the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Part of the bridge collapsed. Multiple fire and police boats were dispatched to the scene."
Videos shared on social media showed the ship hitting the bridge and then the bridge collapsing within seconds. Striking images of the moment the vehicles sank into the water revealed the severity of the incident.
