Concrete of 381 thousand buildings to be inspected with more than 30 million chipped concrete samples

With the Electronic Concrete Monitoring System (EBIS), which was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on December 25, 2018, 30 million 388 thousand 676 chip concrete samples were taken from 381 thousand 376 buildings across Turkey.

According to the information received from the General Directorate of Construction Works, important arrangements were made in the building inspection system in order to adapt to the technological developments of the day with the experiences gained from the earthquakes experienced in recent years in Turkey, and to ensure a more effective and efficient building inspection by eliminating the problems experienced in practice.

In this context, with the Electronic Concrete Monitoring System (EBIS), which was put into practice as of December 25, 2018, a radio frequency identification tag (RFID) was placed in the concrete samples taken from the constructions.

It is monitored from which construction, from which concrete mixer, on which day, at which time, how many, by which personnel of which laboratory, whether the samples are taken with the participation of building inspection officers, and whether the samples are kept at the construction site and in the curing pool for the periods specified in the relevant standard, and the test results are transferred to the Ministry's system online without any intervention from the laboratory environment.

From the commissioning of the EBIS application, which achieved 99.45 percent success, until August 14, 2023, 30 million 388 thousand 676 chip concrete samples were taken from 381 thousand 376 buildings across the country.

Within the scope of EBIS, the production of RFID tags used in the system, which have not been produced in Turkey until now, was started after a year of R&D work. Thus, this technology, which is used in many sectors, has been domesticated and nationalized.

Cooperation protocols with Albania, Azerbaijan, Qatar, TRNC and Uzbekistan
Due to the lack of a monitoring system with these features worldwide, the Ministry held talks with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Albania, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus upon requests from these countries.

Cooperation protocols have been signed with Albania, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Qatar, TRNC and Uzbekistan for the installation of the Electronic Concrete Monitoring System, while negotiations with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan are ongoing.

The success of the EBİS Project was also crowned with many awards. Accordingly, it received the "Transformation Project of the Year" award at the Turkey Innovation and Achievement Awards Ceremony in 2019, the "Innovation Category" award at the Eurasia Construction Architecture Engineering and Design Project Festival in the same year, and the "Benefit in Corporate Processes Category" award at the competition organized by the Informatics Association of Turkey in 2020.
