Russia's Federal State Statistics Service reported that coal production in Russia in January-April 2024 increased by 3% year-on-year to 144 million tonnes. Hard coal production also increased by 3% to 111 million tonnes. However, anthracite production fell by 14.6% to 7.7 million tonnes. At the same time, coking coal production increased by 10.3% to 37.9 million tonnes. Lignite production fell slightly by 2.8% to 32.6 million tonnes.
According to Rosstat, 97.8 million tonnes of coal of all types were produced in April, 3% above the same period last year, but 5.6% below March 2024.
The Energy Ministry expects coal production and exports in 2024 to stay at last year's level.
