According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, national steel companies showed a decrease of 10 percent compared to May 2023, 0.6 percent from June 2022, and exported 7.50 million tons of finished steel products in June 2023. Therefore, foreign supplies decreased for the first time since April 2022.
Looking at the first 6 months of 2023, Chinese finished steel exports increased by 30 percent compared to 2022 and reached 43.50 million tons. In addition, in the period from January to June, companies in China sold about 1 million tons of steel semi-finished products abroad.
In June 2023, imports of finished steel products from China decreased by 3 percent compared to May 2023 and decreased by 22 percent compared to June 2022 and amounted to 612 thousand tons. Compared to 2022, 3.74 million tons of rolled products were purchased from abroad, down 35 percent.
