China cuts steel production in January-November 2022

The 11-month steel product production in China reached 1.225 billion tons, down 0.7 percent compared to January-November 2021. Pig iron production in this period decreased by 0.4 percent year on year to 795.06 million tons.

“Although production has been falling on a monthly basis for the past few months, China's overall production figures this year will be very close to last year's figures. At the same time, the significant decline in the first half of the year offsets at least half of the growth in the second half of the year.

In November 2022, Chinese steelmakers increased their steel production by 7.3 percent compared to the same month of 2021, to 74.54 million tons. Steel products production in November was 109.19 million tons (-7.1% a year) and pig iron - 67.99 million tons (-9.7% year-on-year).

On a monthly basis, steel production in China fell 6.54%, pig iron 4.01% and steel output 4.93% in November.
