Canada launches inquiry into cold-rolled steel import

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has initiated a fresh investigation into the imports of cold-rolled steel products originating from Vietnam, China, and South Korea. This move comes after the imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties in December 2018.

The Canada Border Services Agency has been given until mid-April 2024 to assess whether export subsidies persist and whether they are likely to resume. Should evidence of such subsidies be found, the CITT is expected to deliver a verdict by mid-September regarding the potential threat of harm posed to Canadian producers.

The scope of the investigation encompasses cold-rolled coils and sheets of carbon and alloy steel, specifically those up to 3.61 mm thick and 1,854 mm wide. This re-examination underscores Canada's commitment to maintaining fair trade practices and protecting its domestic steel industry.
