According to the "Petroleum Market Sector Report" of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) for January 2022, the import of crude oil, which constitutes the largest item in Turkey's total oil imports, increased by 42.2 percent and reached 2 million 609 thousand 752 tons.
In this period, the import of diesel types increased by 9 percent to 714 thousand 768 tons. Aviation and marine fuels, gasoline and fuel-oil types and other products constituted the remaining part of the imports.
Thus, total imports increased by 34.9 percent in January compared to the same month of the previous year and became 3 million 579 thousand 639 tons. The growth in sales of petroleum products after the epidemic was effective in the increase in imports.
While Iraq was the largest importer of crude oil and petroleum products with 1 million 172 thousand tons, this country was followed by Russia with 969 thousand 271 tons and Kazakhstan with 518 thousand 422 tons.
On the other hand, gasoline sales increased by 43.6 percent in January compared to the same month of the previous year, to 223 thousand 422 tons, and diesel sales increased by 0.8 percent to 1 million 707 thousand 208 tons.
Total petroleum products sales increased by 4.9 percent and were recorded as 2 million 59 thousand 147 tons.
Exports of petroleum products increased by 26.8 percent
Turkey's aviation fuel exports increased by 75.8 percent in January to 255 thousand 638 tons. In the said period, the export of marine fuels decreased by 428 percent to 208 thousand 225 tons.
While the exports of gasoline types decreased by 9.3 percent to 111 thousand 951 tons, the exports of diesel types decreased by 36.4 percent to 167 thousand 373 tons.
Total exports in the oil market, along with other products, increased by 26.8 percent and reached 922 thousand 118 tons.
30.9 percent increase in petroleum products production
In January, the production of diesel types increased by 6.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 1 million 264 thousand 139 tons, the production of gasoline types increased by 15.8 percent to 313 thousand 24 tons, the production of aviation fuels increased by 90.7 percent to 366 thousand 52 tons.
Marine fuel production increased by 931 percent and was calculated as 186 thousand 561 tons. Total refinery petroleum products production with other fuel types increased by 30.9 percent to 3 million 11 thousand 487 tons.
