Brazil experienced an increase in crude steel, rolled steel, long product and flat steel production. Also, while export numbers witnessed an increase, imports declined.

Brazil increased the production of several steel products in January

According to data provided by the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), crude steel production in Brazil reached approximately 2.7 million tons in January, showing a marginal increase of 0.4% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

During this timeframe, Brazil's production of rolled steel increased by 8% year-on-year, totalling 1.97 million tons. Long product output rose by 5.4% year-on-year to 794,000 tons, while flat product output saw a 10% year-on-year increase, reaching 1.2 million tons.

In January, steel imports into Brazil declined by 3% year-on-year to 367,000 tons, while exports increased by 1.8% year-on-year to 967,000 tons.

The IABr noted that despite the decrease in imports in January, the volume is anticipated to remain high throughout the year due to the influx of dumped steel products from other nations.
