Following the opening speeches of the event, Nursel Ölmez Ateş, Borusan Holding Human Communication and Sustainability Group President, drew attention to the sustainability goals discussed at the United Nations Summit. Emphasising the difficulties encountered in achieving the goals, she stated that the leaders of the business world follow this vision and carry out activities in this direction. However, she emphasised that more cooperation and investment are required to achieve the goals quickly.
Nursel Ölmez Ateş stated that Borusan has set climate, innovation and people-oriented targets and signed the United Nations Global Compact initiative on sustainability. She stated that financing is needed especially for decarbonisation projects and that cooperation with financing institutions is important in this area.
Drawing attention to the need to take an important step in sustainable talent management, Ateş emphasised the issue of gender equality and stated that they aim to increase women's employment. She emphasised the importance of a responsible approach to achieve gender equality and sustainability goals.
Cenk Norter, Managing Partner of Narter Consultancy, stated that the issue of carbon border adjustment is frequently on the agenda in Türkiye, while the European Green Deal offers a much more comprehensive road map. Drawing attention to the EU ETS and carbon regulation at the border, he emphasised the importance of the pilot implementation that will start in Turkiye in 2024 and the importance of integrating into the European Union ETS system in line with the Paris Agreement.
In the event that continued with a panel discussion, Borusan Holding Public Policies Corporate Relations Director Eray Akdağ Bor Customs Consultancy Chairman Suat Yücelen and Borusan Lojistik International Transport Assistant General Manager Esen Öztekayak continued their speeches on sustainability.
