The automotive industry, which closed 2022 with exports of 30 billion 995 million 808 thousand dollars, reached 35 billion 4 million 230 thousand dollars with an increase of 13 percent last year, reaching the highest exports records of all time, according to a compilation of data from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters Association.
Last year, the automotive industry completed the year as the leader of the country's exports and its share in Türkiye's exports was 15.8 percent.
Turkish automotive industry also increased the number of provinces with billion-dollar exports from 5 to 6.
90 percent of the 35 billion dollars of exports in 2023 were made from Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Ankara and Izmir, which exceeded the billion-dollar level.
Kocaeli's automotive exports totaled 8.4 billion dollars.
Automotive exports from Kocaeli, the leader of the sector in exports among provinces, increased by 14.7 percent last year compared to 2022, from 7 billion 383 million 521 thousand dollars to 8 billion 466 million dollars.
Ranking second, Istanbul's exports increased by 16.3 percent compared to 2022, from 7 billion 273 million 442 thousand dollars to 8 billion 457 million 595 thousand dollars.
As for Bursa, it completed last year with an increase of 7.6 percent in automotive exports compared to 2022. Exporting 6 billion 696 million 921 thousand dollars in 2022, Bursa's exports were recorded as 7 billion 203 million 753 thousand dollars in 2023.
Automotive exports of Sakarya were up 19.8 percent
Exports from Sakarya reached 5 billion 45 million 405 thousand dollars from 4 billion 211 million 632 thousand dollars, increasing by 19.8 percent compared to 2022.
Exports from Ankara, which ranked 5th in automotive exports, increased by 21.4 percent last year compared to 2022. Ankara's exports, which were 1 billion 216 million 305 thousand dollars in 2022, were recorded as 1 billion 476 million 121 thousand dollars last year.
Realizing automotive exports of 921 million 543 million dollars in 2022, Izmir increased this performance by 9.3 percent to 1 billion 7 million 689 thousand dollars in 2023.
Total automotive exports of Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Ankara and Izmir, accounting for 90 percent of Türkiye's automotive exports, amounted to 31 billion 656 million 566 thousand dollars.
In the last year, Adana, Aydın, Çankırı, Hatay, İzmir, Kırşehir, Konya, Manisa, Samsun and Tekirdağ exported over 100 million dollars each.
