The company cites weak domestic demand, particularly in the construction sector, and persistently high electricity costs as reasons for this decision. The direct-reduced iron plant in Hamburg is facing particularly great challenges as one of the most energy-intensive steel industry locations in Germany, the company said.
After carefully considering all available options, the management announced that it had decided to reduce production.
The first production shutdown is scheduled from 27 October to 12 November and the second from 14 to 31 December. During this time, the entire plant will be closed and only a minimal team will work on site. The company has therefore asked its customers to plan in advance the shipment of October orders.
