With support from ArcelorMittal's steel materials, engineering expertise and project management, IIT Madras' Hyperloop Technology teams are focusing on developing affordable and sustainable Hyperloop technologies.
For the creation of India and Asia's first Hyperloop test circuit, ArcelorMittal is providing key steel materials, engineering expertise and project management support. IIT Madras' Hyperloop Technology teams, Avishkar Hyperloop and TuTr Hyperloop, are also partnering to revolutionize the transportation sector.
Within this collaboration, AM/NS India will fabricate a 400-meter vacuum tube to test autonomous capsules at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. Highly experienced engineers from ArcelorMittal's manufacturing branch have been assigned to supervise the progress of the project and provide design expertise. The facility is expected to be in operation by the first quarter of 2024.
The Chief Technology Officer of ArcelorMittal, Pinakin Chaubal, highlighted the importance of steel in Hyperloop technology and expressed his excitement. Aravind S. Bharadwaj, Mentor of IIT Madras Hyperloop Technology Development Team, mentioned that this partnership will contribute to the commercialization of Hyperloop technology. ArcelorMittal's collaboration also builds on its previous work with IIT Madras focusing on industrial decarbonization technologies. The company uses the XCarb™ Innovation Fund to invest in technologies to accelerate the steel industry's transition to carbon-neutral steel production.
