Algerian Energy Minister Mohammad Arkab said that his country wishes to increase its existing share in the gas market in Europe.
According to the information provided by the Algerian official news agency, Arkab stated in his speech at the 2022 budget talks in the parliament that Algeria contributes to Europe's energy security.
Noting that Algeria meets 30% of Europe's gas needs, Arkab said that they want to increase their share in the gas market in Europe.
Arkab stressed that his country has the strength to fulfill all its obligations to Spain and Portugal in the supply of natural gas, even though it stopped pumping gas to two European countries with the pipeline passing through Morocco in early November.
The Algerian minister said that the capacity of the Medgaz pipeline, which connects his country with Spain, could be increased to 10.6 billion cubic meters, the current annual demand of Spain and Portugal by December.
During the visit of Spanish Minister of Environmental Transformation Teresa Ribera to Algeria on October 27, Arkab assured Spain about supply via the Medgaz pipeline, an alternative to the Maghreb gas pipeline.
