Acciaierie d'Italia factory in Genoa is in danger of stopping production

Production may stop at the Cornigliano plant of the Italian Acciaierie d'Italia group.

Acciaierie d'Italia factory in Genoa is in danger of stopping production

The plant, with a finished product capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year, is located in the province of Genoa in north-western Italy. The technical condition of the plant's production lines is not satisfactory.

In mid-September, an accident was reported at one of the plant's three cranes. No workers were injured, but the Italian metallurgical union Fim Cisl Genova e Liguria demanded that the Italian government intervene and take measures to prevent a recurrence in the future.

Union officials said that the plant had shut down production lines over the summer but had not carried out the necessary maintenance or refurbished the equipment, even though the state had previously allocated money for this. In addition, Fim said the plant was operating at minimum capacity utilisation. Company management did not comment on the current situation.
