At the beginning of 2023, Acciaierie d'Italia, which had three blast furnaces active at its facilities in Italy, decided to shut down DP furnace No. 1 in August. In September 2023, Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), in a meeting with the government, stated that the facility in the country was experiencing a dangerous phase of decline that was rapidly moving towards closure.
However, in response to this situation, the company decided to cease operations at DP furnace No. 2 in January 2024. The plant includes only blast furnace No. 4, which currently has a throughput of about 1 million tonnes per year.
While ArcelorMittal stated that it refused to co-operate, the Italian government stated that they are ready to invest 2 billion Euros to prevent the closure of ADI plants.
