The Minister Uraloğlu announced two new port projects will be built in Mersin and Adana

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu released details on the Mersin Logistics Port and Adana Main Container Port projects. Stating that the first phase of the Mersin Logistics Port has been completed, Uraloğlu said that this port is planned to have an annual capacity of approximately 10 million TEU.

Emphasizing that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process of the Adana Main Container Port Project, which is planned to be built in Yumurtalık town, is ongoing, Uraloğlu said that the port will have an annual container handling capacity of 9 million TEU.

Uraloğlu stated that there are 44 ports in Hatay-Iskenderun, Adana and Mersin in the Mediterranean Region that handle large or small ports, and that their annual handling capacity is approximately 100 million tons of bulk cargo, 170 million tons of liquid cargo and 4.5 million TEU containers. With the new ports to be built, the capacities in the region will be far exceeded, Uraloğlu emphasized.

Pointing out that Türkiye has an important maritime area for the Black Sea, Western Europe, Middle East and North Africa regions on its 8,333-kilometer coastline, which provides direct sea connections to various countries, Uraloğlu said that ports in Türkiye have a vital importance for the economy.

Mersin and Adana will create a new trade line

Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the port industry of the region will be formed with the new ports and said: "Thanks to these ports, we foresee new breakthroughs in main sectors such as industry, logistics, mining, agriculture, textiles, livestock farming and energy in the region. We aim for the Mediterranean Region to become a new port attraction center of the world.

With two ports to be built in Mersin and Adana, a new trade axis will be formed in world trade and international transportation corridors." Uraloğlu also stated that with the ports that will be established in the Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf will be connected to the Mediterranean via Iraq and Türkiye, and the cargoes of large tonnage ships coming from the Suez Canal will be distributed through Türkiye, and the cargoes carried by rail and land routes in the east-west, south-north corridors will be allowed to pass to the Mediterranean via Türkiye.
