In the new plant, thick cast steel plates will be converted into thin strips for industrial customers. ABB is contributing to this project by supplying 13 MV drives and 16 large MV motors. In addition, a series of 14 LV multi-drives and 256 LV inverters will be supplied to support auxiliary equipment.
ABB's direct torque control (DTC) technology improves the quality of steel products by enabling motors to respond quickly and precisely to load changes. The multi-drive capability of the MV drives allows four motors to be controlled in parallel, saving energy.
The significance of this project is that it increases Hazira's capacity and helps ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel to adopt carbon neutral steel technology. Chris Poynter, Head of ABB Motion System Drives Division, said that this project is a great reference for ABB in India's growing metals sector. India is the world's second largest producer of crude steel.
ABB continues to innovate to provide customers with energy savings, performance and reliability. It offers optimum drive and motor solutions for a wide range of applications and provides customized commissioning and installation services. With more than 130 years of experience in electric power transmission systems, ABB focuses on continuous learning and development.
