After İsdemir started to operate at full capacity as of April 24 and increased its production capacity to the level before the earthquake, İskenderun Demir ve Çelik A.Ş. General Manager Salih Cem Oral gave the following statements in the live broadcast:
“Our factory, which was founded in 1970, celebrated its 52nd anniversary last year and has been serving our country for many years. In the first years, long products were produced, and in time, flat products were produced and it had a liquid steel capacity of 5.8 million tons. İsdemir, together with Erdemir, meets 25% of Turkey's iron and steel needs.”
“We tried to understand our situation the morning after the earthquake, during the post-earthquake period. We were so scared. As the sun was getting brighter, we started the damage assessment work. Although there was no destruction in the areas where 200 thousand household workers lived, they were not in a habitable condition. After it was determined that our employees were safe, factory damage was determined. We saw that our sea water intake facility had slipped by 1.5 meters. Also, we were unable to operate our blast furnaces throughout the process.”
