45th Construction Fair - Turkeybuild Istanbul attracts great interest!

Creating added value in Turkey's locomotive construction sector for 45 years, offering new business opportunities and enabling sectoral information sharing with its rich content every year, Construction Fair - Turkeybuild Istanbul also makes an undeniable contribution to the national economy. Building Fair - Turkeybuild Istanbul, which hosted the sector for 4 days between April 26-29, closed its doors with important events on the last day.

45th Construction Fair - Turkeybuild Istanbul attracts great interest!

The fair, which brings together thousands of foreign investors and domestic business partners every year, brought together sector representatives with powerful and guiding events on its last day. The last day of Yapı Fair - Turkeybuild Istanbul, where the interest of foreign exhibitors, buyers and visitors continued to multiply, started with a session on "Zero Energy Buildings and Alternative Energy Supported Heat Pumps". Among the first session speakers of the day; Zerobuild Summit, Mechanical Engineers Network Leader Semih Çalapkulu, Baymak Product Group Manager Can Erdoğan, Tanrıöver Engineering Mechanical Engineer Cevat Tanrıöver, Electrical Engineer Fusion Energy Harun Girgin and Dynamic Project Group Chairman Zühtü Ferah took part as speakers.

Change and Transformation in Buildings Has Become Mandatory!
Moderated by Semih Çalapkulu, Leader of Zerobuild Summit, Mechanical Engineers Network, the session started with Çalapkulu's statement: "We signed the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015. As per the regulation, it became obligatory to use 5% renewable energy in all buildings exceeding 5 thousand square meters. At the beginning of this year, energy performance was changed from Class C to Class B. This will provide nearly 25% energy efficiency in buildings. We need to be aware of how expensive we produce energy."

Baymak Product Group Manager Can Erdoğan, who was among the speakers of the session, said: "In an environment where energy is so valuable and limited, it is very important that we use energy as efficiently as possible and in a way that does not harm the environment. We need to understand the concept of zero energy buildings and act accordingly. Zero energy buildings mean buildings that produce as much energy as they consume for 1 year and whose annual production is equal to their annual consumption."

Tan Tanrıöver Engineering Mechanical Engineer Cevat Tanrıöver, who shared his recommendations to ensure minimum heat loss and heat gain in buildings, first emphasized that all exterior walls and surfaces of neighboring apartments should be well insulated from outside and inside. "It is important to design the heating-cooling-ventilation systems in a way to ensure that the heat pumps operate in the maximum efficiency zone," said Tanrıöver.

Electrical Engineer Fusion Energy Harun Girgin, who explained solar and passive houses, talked about how solar energy systems work while talking about where renewable energy was at the beginning and what stage it is at now. Girgin said, "Turkey has the advantage of its location and has the potential to generate more electricity from solar energy than many countries." Sharing information about decarbonization, which is the latest trend in energy in the world, Girgin defined passive houses as places that demand the least amount of general energy from outside to maintain their vitality.

Starting his presentation by defining zero energy building or net zero building, Zühtü Ferah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dinamik Project Group, evaluated zero energy buildings and mechanical installation systems in the operation phase. He said that solar, wind, water and even wave energy are among the sources that will stand out in renewable energy sources and that Hydrogen has come to the forefront in recent studies and that this market is expected to grow by 400%.

Sustainable Life is Possible with Sustainable Solutions!
The second session of the day titled 'Zero Energy Buildings and Sustainable Solutions' was attended by Sedef Budak, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Women in the Energy and Power Sector (TWRE), Süveyda Bayraktar Atagür, Landscape Architect, Urban Design Specialist, Co-Founder of SAA Architecture, Cemre Uçar, Founder of I-Rcu Global Consulting and Katya Kaya, Project Manager of Turkeco Construction and Energy Company.

In the session moderated by Sedef Budak, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Turkish Women in the Energy and Power Sector (TWRE), she drew attention to the earthquakes in our country and said, "We came together to talk about how to create a sustainable city, sustainable life, how we can create and manage these projects."

Speaking about the impact of urban projects on the natural environment, Süveyda Bayraktar Atagür, Landscape Architect, Urban Design Specialist, Founding Partner of SAA Architecture, said: "Normally we see cities as an ecosystem. An artificial ecosystem, it adapts, grows and develops. But it is only dominated by humans. When we look at the constructions in urban projects; we are losing the areas where we can receive these systems because we are opening natural environments to construction very quickly. The loss of green areas gives us a negative return in many areas."

Speaking about the green building concept, Katya Kaya, Project Manager at Turkeco Construction and Energy Company, said: "Since 2010, we have seen a significant increase in green building concepts. Nowadays, when the word sustainability has started to be used a lot, interest and demand for green building has also increased. Especially with a certificate issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in June 2022, it is aimed to make it more widespread. Incentives are expected in this direction."

Talking about the impact of natural disasters on the structural environment, Kaya said, "Buildings are responsible for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, and when we add infrastructure and transportation to this, this percentage increases. Human health is proportional to nature. For this reason, planning should be done by paying attention to whether the construction is compatible with the place where it will be built and protecting nature."

Speaking about the importance of project management in sustainable development, Founder I-Rcu Global Consulting R. Cemre Uçar talked about project management process groups and knowledge areas. Uçar said, "When we talk about project management standards, we are talking about sustainability. Complex structures need to be managed in a healthy and structured way. Scope management, cost management, quality management, resource, risk and communication are all included in project management areas."

Architectural Master Classes at the Building Fair!
One of the remarkable events of the Building Fair, the Building Master Class - Architectural Master Classes offered an interactive fair experience with the main theme of "Building Hope", where architects known for their remarkable works in the sector talked about "Post-Earthquake Housing and Public Space", "The Relationship Between Structural Design and Tectonics" and "Dialogue Between Scales" while learning the products on site.
