2027 target for Russian gas in Europe

Paolo Gentiloni, Member of the European Union (EU) Commission for Economy, stated that the union aims at the end of 2027 to get rid of its dependence on Russian oil and gas.

2027 target for Russian gas in Europe

As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues, Europe's dependence on Russian energy resources remains on the agenda.

The latest statement in this direction came from Paolo Gentiloni, Member of the European Union (EU) Commission for Economy.

In a statement to the newspaper Il Messaggero, the Italian official announced that the European Union aims to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas by two thirds by the end of the year, and to completely get rid of this dependence by the end of 2027.

Gentiloni also stated that the EU may revise its previous growth forecasts for 2022 downwards. The European Union will publish its spring term projections on 16 May.

Kuleba calls for embargo on Russian oil
While EU officials are trying to reduce reliance on Russian energy, calls for an immediate embargo on Russian oil continue from the Ukrainian side.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba called for the EU to impose a real embargo on Russian oil.

Kuleba, who made statements on his Twitter account, said that Russia is trying to bypass the sanctions and that any portfolio containing Russian oil should be perceived as 100 percent Russian oil.
