17th Arab Steel Summit kicks off in Qatar

The Summit is being organized under the patronage of Mr. Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs, in cooperation with Qatar Steel Company.

The event opened with a welcome speech by Mr. Awwad Al-Khaldi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Iron and Steel Union. This was followed by speeches by Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and Dr. Kamel Djoudi, Secretary General of the Arab Iron and Steel Union. The opening program continued with a moment of silence by the President of the Arab Iron and Steel Union and Primetal Technology Company for the Qatari Minister of Energy and the opening of the 2024 International Iron and Steel Exhibition.

On the first day of the summit, critical issues related to the steel industry will be discussed. Presentations will be made in panels titled “Economic and Geopolitical Impacts on the Steel Industry”, “Iron and Steel Market and Prospects”, “Danieli Innovations” and “Transforming the Arab Iron and Steel Industry into a More Sustainable Structure”.

The presentations emphasized that global steel demand will enter a moderate growth phase in 2025. It was pointed out that the stability achieved in China's real estate sector will be the most important determinant of the global steel demand outlook in the 2025/2026 period. In addition, broad-based growth and a strong recovery in steel-using sectors are expected in the world excluding China.

The Summit will continue on October 14-15, 2024.
