Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced housing sales statistics for August.
Accordingly, the number of house sales across Turkey decreased by 1.1 percent in August compared to the same month last year, falling to 122 thousand 91.
In the January-August period, housing sales decreased by 15.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 797 thousand 418.
In August, Istanbul had the highest share in housing sales with 17 thousand 408 sales and 14.3 percent. According to sales numbers, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 11 thousand 7 house sales and a 9 percent share, and Izmir with 6 thousand 504 house sales and a 5.3 percent share.
The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Ardahan with 39 houses, Hakkari with 67 houses and Artvin with 139 houses.
3 thousand 58 houses were sold to foreigners in August. Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 42 percent on an annual basis in August. In the month in question, the share of housing sales to foreigners in total housing sales was 2.5 percent.
In sales to foreigners, the first place was followed by Istanbul with 1066 houses, Antalya with 919 houses and Mersin with 248 houses.
Housing sales to foreigners amounted to 25 thousand 134 in the January-August period, with a decrease of 43.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to country nationalities, the most house sales were made to Russian citizens. In August, Russian citizens bought 733 houses from Turkey. Russian citizens were followed by Iranian citizens with 342 houses, Iraqi citizens with 220 houses and Kazakhstan citizens with 141 houses.
Mortgaged house sales decreased
Mortgaged house sales across Turkey decreased by 26.1 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 16 thousand 375. The share of mortgage sales in total housing sales was 13.4 percent.
Mortgaged house sales in the January-August period were determined as 152 thousand 438, with a 28 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
3 thousand 762 of the mortgaged sales in August and 46 thousand 894 of the sales in the January-August period were first hand sales.
Other housing sales increased in August
Other housing sales across Turkey increased by 4.3 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 105 thousand 716. The share of other sales in total housing sales was 86.6 percent.
Other housing sales in the January-August period were recorded as 644 thousand 980, with a decrease of 11.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
The number of first-hand house sales across Turkey decreased by 9.5 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 35 thousand 310. The share of first-hand house sales in total house sales was determined as 28.9 percent. First-hand house sales decreased by 13.8 percent in the January-August period compared to the same period last year, reaching 238 thousand 109.
Second-hand house sales across Turkey increased by 2.7 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 86 thousand 781. The share of second-hand house sales in total house sales was 71.1 percent. Second-hand house sales were recorded as 559 thousand 309 in the January-August period, with a decrease of 16.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
