The scientists at the international conference "Iron Ore Deposits of Ukraine: Current Problems and Development Prospects" expressed the opinion that additional efforts should be made by mining and processing plants in Ukraine to produce concentrates with high iron content, in particular, the transition from the production of concentrates with iron content of 64-68% to the production of concentrates with iron content of 70-71%
It is emphasised that products that do not meet high quality standards risk to remain unclaimed in the market.
The specificity of the Ukrainian iron ore industry is associated with the use of ores with a low iron content of about 30%, which requires further processing and beneficiation. As a result of such processes there are significant qualitative changes in the product, it turns into a soft pulp-like monomineral product - magnetite concentrate with iron content of 64-68%, which makes it more competitive on the world market.
The concentrate obtained in the process of deep processing is a completely new product that differs significantly from ore. Scientists emphasise that such changes in the product should be taken into account in taxation in order not to create inappropriate burdens for companies in the industry.
